What is ayurveda?

Ayurveda (Aa-yur-veda) is Ancient Indian Medicine which studies 'Life' besides disease.

Ayurveda has been practiced for more than 10,000 years to keep healthy people healthy and to treat sickness if required. It's efficacy has been validated over millions of people. It acknowledges and honors the 'Whole' Person.

We don't realize how much our diet and our lifestyle impacts our well being. For complete wellness it is imperative to evaluate the food and lifestyle component of our lives. Simple things like what time we wake up, what time we sleep, how we eat our food, how we look at life etc. can have a deep impact on our health.

" Said to be the world’s oldest and most comprehensive system of medicine, Ayurveda never sees a person as a disease, or as a diseased person. It views each individual as a vital expression of life, with intelligence and regenerative powers that sometimes need support and nurturing. In this way, Ayurveda restores dignity to patients and humanity to medicine. It is respectful. It is medicine of the people, for the people. " - Laura Plumb, Ayurvedic Practitioner

In Ayurvedic philosophy, it is believed that akin to a unique fingerprint, every individual possesses a distinctive energy pattern—a specific amalgamation of physical, mental, and emotional traits. Various factors, including stress, an imbalanced diet, weather conditions, and strained family relationships, can disrupt this energy equilibrium, manifesting as illness. Ayurvedic professionals recommend specific treatments to restore the harmony of these energies.

Getting an Ayurvedic Consultation is a gift of self awareness that you give yourself and your family. It is like a fine tuning of your lifestyle and food to ensure that you are putting your best foot forward in this journey of life. Being born as a Human species is a privilege. Make the most of it!

An Ayurvedic consultation starts with understanding "YOU" and the interplay of the five elements - Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth within you . It is completely customized to your unique self. Food, lifestyle (habits), mantras, yoga, massage, meditation, breathing practices, affirmations and natural herbs are then used to create an optimum environment for your body to heal itself and THRIVE.

How much does Ayurveda cost?

Since Ayurveda is not yet licensed in the United States, every Ayurveda professional chooses their own price point. It can start anywhere around $150 for a 60 min session. It depends on the education, level of experience and style of the practitioner and also if it is a single session or they are going to hold your hand over a longer time period.

In the grand scheme of things, Ayurveda costs less because it teaches you to help your own body take care of itself and reduces your dependency on others to take care of you. In short, it puts the power back in your hands which is 'priceless'.

Is Ayurveda Complementary to Modern Medicine?

Absolutely. Ayurveda can be followed along with any other modality you are pursuing. There is absolutely no conflict. An Ayurveda Professional in the U.S. will NOT ask you to stop any medication you are taking currently. At the same time it is very much possible that you yourself feel good enough and decide to stop taking the medication.

Is Ayurveda covered by Insurance?

Ayurveda is not yet a licensed profession. Hence it is not covered by Insurance. However many professionals accept payments via HSA/ FSA accounts.

How do I choose the right Ayurveda professional to work with?

Most Ayurveda professionals are heart centered individuals who want to serve mankind and make a difference in people's lives. They don't choose Ayurveda. Ayurveda chooses them!

Every Ayurveda professional has their own unique style of working with their clients. Some work with herbs, while some focus on lifestyle shifts. There are others who are great listeners and focus on counseling. They all work in unique ways but they are ALL able to help you with your goals.

Working with an Ayurveda Professional is more like an act of divinity. You speak to a few people and go with your gut feel. Your instincts will guide you.
