Have you ever been stuck with a Bad Cough?
The good news is that our body is intelligent enough to heal itself. We just need to get out of its way. The following are tips on how to do just that!
Let's understand wet cough from an Ayurvedic perspective.
Wet cough is an aggravated kapha dosha which is Water and Earth elements.
Its qualities are sticky, cold, heavy, dense and slow. So in order to reduce these qualities, we need to embrace dry, light, warm, mobile and subtle qualities.
Based on this, here are some simple and effective tips to get relief from Cough with Phlegm.
- When you sleep, wear a tight warm inner layer like a thermal vest or camisole that keeps your chest warm through the night! This is a very important step to avoid collecting more mucus while you sleep.
- Eat only 3 meals in a day. Light breakfast (between 7:00 - 8:00am), heavy lunch (between 11:30am and 1:00pm) and light dinner (between 5:00 and 7:00pm).
- Eat only if you feel hunger in the belly. Else skip the meal.
- All meals should be warm and cooked. No raw food as raw food is harder to digest. That means avoid salads as well.
- Drink warm water and herbal teas the whole day. Licorice tea, turmeric, ginger, tulsi, cloves, black pepper are all good options. A simple trick is to just add a slice of fresh ginger to your thermos of hot water and sip the whole day!
- Create a home remedy by boiling these spices - 1/8 tsp carom seeds (ajwain) , 1/4 tsp ginger powder, 2 cloves,1 " stick of cinnamon and 2 peppercorns in 1 glass of water, till it reduces to half a glass. Then strain and drink the water once a day.
- Use a steam inhaler twice a day - after waking up and before sleeping. This dislodges the mucous from the chest and removes it.
- Do turmeric and salt water gargles as often as you can but especially after waking up and just before sleeping. Recipe: Boil 1 cup water + 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp turmeric. Bring to lukewarm before gargling.
- Avoid dairy, wheat, white sugar, fried food, and extra salty food.
- Salted Nuts ,chips and popcorn are big aggravators of cough. Avoid them at all costs.
- Limit sweet, sour and salty tastes.
- A very effective home remedy is this one - take about 1 teaspoon of ginger juice and add about 1 and 1/2 teaspoons of RAW LOCAL Honey. Mix it well. Have it about three to four times a day. Tip: For ginger juice do the following: Wash fresh ginger and grate it. Then take the grated ginger and squeeze with fingers. You will get amazingly spicy fresh ginger juice.
SOON, you can feel back to normal!!!!
